Illness Guidelines
At CPU we use the following guidelines to determine if a child is “too sick for school.” If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s building health team.
These guidelines will reduce the chance of illness in our school and keep other children from getting sick. Careful consideration on your part will help safeguard the health of your child as well as the health of classmates and teachers.
If you do not have a plan for when your child is sick, we encourage you to make this plan ahead of time. Thank you for helping us to keep our students healthy!
Vomiting or Diarrhea: Please keep home for 24 hours after last episode
Fever: Please keep home if temperature is above 100.4 and stay home until fever has been below 100.4 for 24 hours without giving a fever reducer.
Cough: Please keep home if coughing almost constantly or complaints of difficulty breathing.
Antibiotics: If your child needs to be on antibiotics for an illness, please keep them home until you have given the medicine for 24 hours.
For a variety of illnesses: Please visit the Iowa Public Health Department (IPHD) for their recommendations by clicking HERE.
